 K-8 Computer Lab - Mrs. J. Machado                     A

Hello, I’m entering my 5th year of teaching computers at St. Aloysius. In addition to teaching, I am the advisor to the Student Council and the Builders’ Club, the Varsity Volleyball coach and I put the yearbook together. I am also a former St. Aloysius parent and Parents’ Club President. Yes, you could say I’m a fan of this great school!

- Mrs. J. Machado

K-4 classes generally focus on basic skills as well as research on topics they are studying in class.

·  Kindergarten and First Grade – Learn the parts of computers, basic computer operation, mouse manipulation, and are introduced to keyboarding, internet safety and Microsoft Word.

  • Second and Third Grade – continued work on general computer literacy, with an introduction to research related to classroom topics (i.e. “webquests”) as well as introductions to Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Fourth Grade – continued work on computer literacy, with a rigorous introduction to proper keyboarding techniques, and continued research on classroom topics. There is also continued work in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint as well as an introduction to Microsoft Publisher.

In the Upper Grades we move from learning the computer to truly using the computer as a tool for productivity and creativity.

  • Fifth through Eighth Grade – Improved keyboarding skills and internet safety play a large part in these grades. Making the most of Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher continues to play a role here.

“We already knew that kids learned computer technology more easily than adults; It is as if children were waiting all these centuries for someone to invent their native language."
